The Breakaway: Free Watch Party: The Genius of Jazz with Wynton Marsalis and Jon Batiste
October 6, 2020 @ 8:00pm - 9:00pm PDT

From the Facebook event description:
For this watch party, we’ll be watching “The Genius of Jazz” talk with Wynton Marsalis and Jon Batiste from Aspen Ideas Festival in 2015. It explains the evolution of the music, demonstrates key jazz musical aesthetics, and explores the relationship with racial history in America. Mixed in there are various short but exquisite performances with the two Jazz masters. It’s a riveting conversation that is aptly fitting in today’s time.
The clip is freely available online, and The Breakaway simply wants to create a space so we can all enjoy this video and chat about it together as a community. Register for free at https://breakawayswing.square.site/ and you can also make a small donation to support us in running future events!
. . . . . . . . .
Wynton Marsalis is an internationally acclaimed musician, composer, bandleader, educator and a leading advocate of American culture. He is the world’s first jazz artist to perform and compose across the full jazz spectrum from its New Orleans roots to bebop to modern jazz. Jon Batiste is a New Orleans-bred, New York-based musician, educator, and humanitarian, and the band leader of “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.” The two discuss the genius of jazz with Walter Isaacson.
